3D models: upload a 3D model

The content in this section describe features that are currently in preview and that are not yet generally available. The features are subject to change, and we do not recommend that you use them in production systems.

Follow these steps to upload a 3D CAD file to Cognite Data Fusion. We currently support .fbx and .obj files.

  1. Open the 3D upload service: 3d-ingestor.cogniteapp.com.

  2. Fill in the name of your tenant (1) and then click Save this Tenant (2).

  3. Click Go (3), and log in to your account if you're prompted.

  4. The list shows the 3D models that have already been added to the tenant. To add a new 3D model, click Add New Model (4).

  5. Give the new 3D model a name (5), then click Create New Model (6).

  6. Click to select a file, or drag the 3D CAD file you want to upload into the rectangular area (7).

Note: If you don't have a file to upload, you can use this file to test the feature.

  7. Click Upload (10) to start the upload. Uploading may take some time if the file is large and you have a slow connection.

  8. Cognite Data Fusion starts optimizing the uploaded 3D model for rendering. The optimization can take from a few minutes to a few hours depending on the size of the model. To see the optimization status, click the file you uploaded, and then click Refresh (13).

  9. When the model has been fully optimized, the status changes to Done. Click inside the light blue box to see the revision details and publish the model.

  10. Click Publish Now! (15) to publish the revision and make it available in Operational Intelligence and any other 3D application based on the Cognite 3D Viewer.

Click the play button (16) to preview the 3D model, create a thumbnail and set the default camera position.

  11. Click the camera button (17) to create a thumbnail and set the default camera position for the revision.
